Robert T. Kiyosaki, born in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1947 to a Japanese-American family, grew up in an academically rich environment shaped by his father, Ralph Kiyosaki, who served as the head of education in Hawaii. Kiyosaki’s youth was characterized by exposure to the values of education and ambition, themes entwined with his later philosophies. After excelling at Hilo High School, he attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy in New York, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He subsequently served as a helicopter gunship pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and resilience.
