Dale Carnegie

Born: November 24, 1888 – Maryville, Missouri, United States

Dale Carnegie was an American author, lecturer, and pioneer in public speaking and self-improvement, best known for his 1936 bestseller How to Win Friends and Influence People, which sold over 30 million copies and remains highly influential worldwide. His work and Dale Carnegie Institute’s courses profoundly shaped the fields of business communication and personal development.

Biography & Author's Journey

Dale Carnegie was born Dale Breckenridge Carnagey on November 24, 1888, in Maryville, Missouri, into a family of poor farmers. His early years were marked by manual labor and economic hardship, yet Carnegie distinguished himself as a thoughtful and capable student. As a boy lacking athletic prowess, he discovered the power of words and developed his speaking skills through frequent participation in local debate contests and Chautauqua assemblies. These formative experiences stoked his enthusiasm for public speaking, ultimately leading him to study at State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he continued to hone his oratory talents despite financial constraints.
