    La paralisi da analisi si verifica quando il cervello va in cortocircuito a causa di un conflitto tra la parte razionale e quella emotiva. Spesso è alimentata dall'illusione che avere più informazioni porti a scelte migliori; tuttavia, superato il 70% delle informazioni disponibili, la qualità della decisione smette di migliorare e si rischia di affogare nei dati. Questo fenomeno ci blocca nel tentativo di trovare una "decisione perfetta" che in realtà non esiste.

    Il Sistema 1 è il nostro "pilota automatico": è veloce, intuitivo, agisce d'istinto e gestisce circa il 95% della nostra giornata senza consumare molta energia. Il Sistema 2 è il "pensatore lento", meticoloso e pigro, che si attiva per calcoli complessi e analisi logiche. Gli errori nascono spesso perché il Sistema 2, per pigrezza, approva acriticamente le risposte rapide suggerite dal Sistema 1, oppure perché cerchiamo di usare la logica pesante del Sistema 2 per decisioni banali, esaurendo le nostre riserve di energia mentale.

    L'intuito non è magia, ma un riconoscimento rapidissimo di schemi basato su un archivio di esperienze passate. Si manifesta solitamente con una sensazione di "serena chiarezza" e stabilità fisica. Al contrario, la paura è rumorosa, caotica e genera ansia o senso di attacco. Per allenare un intuito affidabile è necessario esporsi a molte esperienze e ricevere feedback immediati, permettendo al cervello di collegare correttamente le azioni ai risultati.

    L'effetto ancoraggio si verifica quando il cervello si aggrappa al primo dato che riceve (come un prezzo iniziale alto), usandolo come punto di riferimento per tutte le valutazioni successive, anche se quel dato è irrilevante. Il bias di conferma è invece la tendenza a cercare solo informazioni che confermano ciò che pensiamo già, ignorando attivamente le prove contrarie. Entrambi sono scorciatoie mentali (euristiche) che possono trasformarsi in errori sistematici di valutazione.

    Una strategia efficace è il "satisficing": stabilire criteri minimi e scegliere la prima opzione che li soddisfa, invece di cercare l'ottimo assoluto. Per decisioni importanti, si può usare la regola del 10-10-10 (valutare l'impatto tra 10 minuti, 10 mesi e 10 anni) o il "Pre-Mortem", che consiste nell'immaginare che la scelta sia fallita per identificarne preventivamente i rischi. Infine, è fondamentale evitare di decidere quando si è stanchi o affamati, poiché la "fatica decisionale" riduce drasticamente la nostra capacità di giudizio.
