Ever wonder how a stray guitar riff became a global anthem? Trace André Tanneberger's journey from 9pm (Till I Come) to his final chapter tour.

André Tanneberger believed that every album should have its own soul, and that you only really feel that soul if you listen to the songs together. This 'golden thread' became his trademark, allowing him to inject soul and emotion into the machine-driven world of the rave.
The signature sound that defined ATB’s breakthrough hit was actually an accidental discovery. While working in the studio in 1998, André Tanneberger produced a stray slide-guitar riff by chance. This accidental melody became the centerpiece of the track, leading it to become the UK’s first-ever trance number one and establishing a legacy that would span decades.
The "Two Worlds" concept refers to André’s approach of balancing high-energy club anthems with atmospheric ambient music. Starting with his 2000 double album of the same name, he divided his work into the "World of Movement" for the dancefloor and the "World of Ambient" for home listening. This philosophy allowed him to explore a full spectrum of electronic music, ensuring his albums had a "golden thread" of emotion that appealed to listeners in different moods.
Unlike many producers who rely solely on digital samples, André emphasizes a "handmade" approach by playing physical instruments. In his studio sessions, particularly alongside his co-producer RuDee, he incorporates live drums, piano, and guitars. This method shifted his sound toward a 50/50 split between electronic and organic elements, providing a warmth and "rock and pop crossover flavor" that distinguishes his work from more mechanical dance music.
André is recognized for his technical mastery of "long and drawn-out" beatmixing, a discipline where transitions between songs can last for several minutes. He focuses on "reading the crowd" and using effects like filters and flangers as "glue" to create a seamless narrative journey. His ability to bridge the past and present by mixing 30-year-old classics with modern productions requires sophisticated EQing and a deep understanding of key-mixing to maintain a cohesive flow.
ATB successfully introduced his music to a younger generation through the 2021 track "Your Love (9PM)," a collaboration with Topic and A7S. Rather than a simple remix, this was a complete reimagining of his original hit designed for modern production sensibilities. By maintaining an active presence on digital platforms and continuing to collaborate with contemporary artists, he has kept his sound relevant while staying true to the melodic roots that made him a pillar of the trance community.
